A teacher’s enthusiasm is contagious…

This week I had a nice reminder of how important it is for teachers to be enthusiastic about what they are teaching.

I was concerned about a lesson this past week as it had me doing a quite a bit of talking. This is not really my style of teaching…my lessons are designed around the students doing rather than me talking. However, in this particular lesson we were tying up some loose ends on the causes of the Civil War and I found myself doing more talking than usual.

Fortunately, what I was teaching is something that I am truly interested in and enthusiastic about…what’s great was that my enthusiasm definitely rubbed off on the students as they were hanging on my every word.

It’s funny…we spend so much time talking about this teaching strategy and that teaching strategy that we sometimes forget the obvious…Teach with Enthusiasm!

I know it is not always easy…it is unlikely that teachers are going to love everything they teach…but remember, if you are enthusiastic about your content it will be much easier for you to teach and for your students to learn.
